My name is Angela Young and I am the Managing Director and principal shareholder of Serene Funeral Planning. Before founding Serene, I spent eight years as a Senior Business Development Manager with Anderson Maguire Funeral Directors. During my time there, I focused on developing the funeral planning division while also working closely with the at-need services. This dual experience has given me greater insight into the funeral sector and a deeper understanding of how pivotal funeral plans are for both families and funeral directors.
In July 2022, the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) announced its intention to regulate the funeral planning market. Seeing this as a prime opportunity to start my own business, I welcomed the change, having long supported regulation to ensure customers receive the best possible service. The process of obtaining FCA approval was rigorous, taking 18 months of intense effort and study.
Despite the challenges, my passion and determination for this industry drove me forward, and in May 2023. Serene Funeral Planning was approved by the FCA (FRN 975199). Of the 100+ firms that applied to the FCA for authorisation only 28 were approved (correct of June 2024), a testament to the quality of Serene’s ethical business model.

Our goal is to empower our customers to make informed decisions without feeling obligated to pay for advice.
We make it a priority to visit every funeral director we work with, whether through plan allocation or referrals. This allows us to confidently assure our customers that we work only with the best, ensuring that funeral directors' premises and practices meet our rigorous standards.
